Family Favorite Fudge Ball Cookie

My mother makes sure all three of us kids get our favorite cookie for the holiday’s. Fudge Balls are my older sister’s favorite. They are pretty simple to make and I had to make them again for some better images to include in this article. Read away!

And yes, I took everything outside to take this photograph. The natural lighting outside is much better for pictures. You do, what you gotta do, to get those images.

First gather all the supplies

Gather ingredients

Amazon Fresh, Unsalted Butter Sticks, 16 Oz (Previously Happy Belly, Packaging May Vary) (Amazon)

Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate Premium Baking Bar with 100 % Cacao (4 oz Box) (Amazon)

Domino, Granulated White Sugar, 4 lb, packaging may vary. (Amazon)

Amazon Fresh, Cage Free Large White Eggs, Grade A, 18 Count (Previously Happy Belly, Packaging May Vary) (Amazon)

Amazon Brand – Happy Belly, Sea Salt, Fine Ground, 1 pound (Pack of 1) (Amazon)

Amazon Brand – Happy Belly Pure Vanilla Extract, 16 fl oz (Pack of 1) (Amazon)

Amazon Fresh, All Purpose Flour, 5 Lb (Pack of 1) (Amazon)

Domino Powdered Sugar, 32 Oz. (Amazon)

Directions

Melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate.

Gather that pot, turn on the stove, add the butter and chocolate. Use low heat and make sure it doesn’t boil.

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick).
  • 1 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate – (six 1/4 oz premeasured chunks if using the Baker’s brand chocolate).

Add the sugar.

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar.

Add the salt.

  • 1/4 tsp salt.

Add the vanilla.

  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract.

I’m a man / dad blogger, so I use shot glasses. I think they look cooler.

Add the egg.

  • 1 large egg.

Although I didn’t show it here, I prefer to crack the egg on a small dish before adding it to the mix. Cracking the egg on a plate before adding allows you make sure no shells get into the recipe.

If eggs shells do happen to flake off, it is much easier to see and remove them on the plate before adding the egg to the pot. I never like having eggs shells in my breakfast, and I most certainly don’t like having egg shells in my cookies.

Add the flour.

  • 2 cups.

Turn off the stove or remove from heat. Then pour in the flour and mix.

Make the cookies.

Using your hands or a 1 tbsp cookie scoop, form the cookies in desired size and place them on a cookie sheet. These are meant to be small and round. I use the 1 tbsp cookie scoop as pictured here. They come in 1 tbsp, 2 tbsp and 3 tbsp sizes and make a great gift for the baker in your family. And you may as well buy all three sizes as they can be used for other recipes.

Cookie Scoop Set, 3Pcs Ice Cream Scoop, Cookie Scoops for Baking Set of 3, 18/8 Stainless Steel Cookie Scooper for Baking, Ice Cream Scooper with Trigger Release, Cookie Dough Scoop with Non-slip Grip. (Amazon)

This recipe makes about 30 cookies. I filled up two cookie sheets before putting them in the oven.

This is what they look like before baking them. Yes, I took them outside again to get this photograph.

This is what they look like after they have been in the oven. The pleasant fall weather made this the prefect time to bring them outside to cool, and get better pictures.

Let them completely cool before coating them in confectionery sugar. Otherwise known as powered sugar. You want them to cool, or the warmth from the cookies will melt the sugar.

I used about a 1/2 cup of confectionery sugar and had some left over after coating all thirty.

Once they are all coated, arrange them on a plate, bring them outside again and take more pictures for the article you are writing. Of course you will need to sample at least one to get that image with the bite taken out of the cookie. After all, your readers will want to see the inside of the cookie, right?

It was late October when I made these. The leaves were falling, so I decided to photograph one cookie using the fallen leaves. Nice touch, don’t you think?

Have you made these before? Does your family like Fudge Ball Cookies? What size do you prefer to these? 1 tbsp, 2 tbsp or 3 tbsp size? Leave a comment below.
